Socktoberfest Questions

I'm a little late with this quiz, but since things are progressing slowly around here--I thought a questionnaire would help:

When did you start making socks? 2004
I went to the LYS (which I can actually walk to) to look at yarn--I bought some sock yarn at Christmas time when purchasing some wool for felted slippers.
Did you teach yourself or were you taught by a friend or relative? or in a class?
I taught myself by using the pattern that was free with the yarn and found it quite easy.
The only thing I didn't like was that I would get a jog between the dpn's.

What was your first pair?
My first pair was this pair:

How have they "held up" over time?
They've done really well. The jogs are less noticeable with multiple washings.
they have become a bit fuzzy, but they are still fit really well and haven't slouched at all!
What would you have done differently?
Learned to knit with 5 dpns--I've found this technique has eliminated the jogs I used to get.

What yarns have you particularly enjoyed?
I have recently developed a love for Koigu. I received some from my first Sockapalooza pal--as she read that I didn't like wool as I found it "too itchy" and decided to treat me!
I make Alison's Ankle Socks out of them...and I loved working with it.
I bought 2 skeins in the summer, that I haven't used yet...I'm saving it. It's too good and I don't want it gone!
Do you like to crochet your socks? or knit them on DPNs, 2 circulars, or using the Magic Loop method?
I have never crocheted socks, as I don't crochet. My sister just gave me a pair of socks for Princess B that she crocheted and they look cool!
I like doing one long circular a la Magic Loop--since I bought my Addi's. I have tried 2 circulars as well.
I recently bought some bamboo Dpn's which are quite nice also.
Which kind of heel do you prefer? (flap? Or short-row?)
I am currently loving the short row heel (and toe) that I learned while doing the ALison's Ankle socks. That pattern teaches you a different short row, that uses a reverse YO and twists the stitches so as not to get holes. I have tried a couple of other short row method and couldn't figure it out.
I have done 2 pairs of heel flap socks and got holes when picking up the stitches.
Grumperina has an entry about picking up stitches a "pretty way" that I might like to try.
Also, I would like to try other heels--Eye of Partridge etc etc.
How many pairs have you made?
Apparently I've made 13 (I"m actually waiting for some more S'mores yarn from Through the Loops to finish the Smore Jaywalkers, but they are complete anklets right now, so they count)
Only 5 pairs of those have been for me....I am making more for me now...

Okay...I have been dying to get my hands on some of that S'mores sock yarn. It looks so awesome.
